The Nigerian Exchange closed the week ended 7 August 2026 marginally higher, with the All-Share Index up 0.12% week-on-week to 245,573.60 points and equity market capitalisation at N158.513 trillion, lifting the year-to-date return to about 57.8%. Breadth was negative despite the index gain — 26 gainers against 63 losers — and turnover was 5.359 billion shares worth N139.053 billion in 261,869 deals, with Financial Services accounting for 64.73% of volume. The week was choppy: the index opened August higher on 3 August, then shed 0.38% to 244,802.83 on 4 August (about N599 billion off market value), before tier-one banks (FUGAZ) added roughly N237.8 billion on Friday, 7 August. Note: for several of the week's biggest decliners (THOMASWY, CMFC, TRANSEXPR, CAP, ETI) and for the upcoming dividend-payer list (TIP, SEPLAT, PRESCO, CUSTODIAN, MTNN, LINKASSURE), no verifiable company-specific news for this week was found, so no explanation is offered here rather than speculating.
